Astro’n’out to Perform at Charity Concert by Tavi Draugi at the End of July
Continuing the tradition started last year, the charity organization Tavi Draugi is once again inviting everyone to two charity concerts “Angāra saulrieti” (Hangar Sunsets) this summer. The first concert will take place on Wednesday, July 31, starting at 6:00 PM near the organization’s hangar at Ventspils iela 50, Riga, featuring performances by “Astro’n’out” and MUUD, with DJ Ķilkuts providing music for dancing. The next charity concert will be held on August 28.
“Last summer, after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP dam, we were looking for new ways to help eliminate the consequences of the flood, and that’s how the idea of organizing concerts was born. Together with beloved artists in Latvia, we managed to create joy through a series of three concerts, while simultaneously doing good and raising nearly 29,000 euro in donations for the support of Ukraine. This summer, we want to continue the ‘Angāra saulrieti’ tradition with the aim of helping those who need it most, both in Ukraine and Latvia. We are pleased that beloved musicians in Latvia, representatives of creative fields, and technical specialists are ready this summer, during the active concert season, to dedicate their time, effort, and resources to supporting charity,” says Beāte Bēvalde, a representative of the Tavi Draugi organization.
Admission to the “Angāra saulrieti” concerts is by donation for a specific purpose. Donations from attendees of the July 31 concert will be directed towards materials for weaving camouflage nets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At least three times a week, workshops are held at the Tavi Draugi organization for weaving camouflage nets, which, at the request of Ukrainian soldiers, are made of special fabric in various sizes of camouflage nets. Their primary function is to hide equipment, ammunition, vehicles, and humanitarian cargo from the aggressor.
The nets are made of strips of spunbond fabric in various shades. The weaving is done using a special technique, taking into account the terrain and natural color scheme of the location where the nets will be used, avoiding the creation of precise geometric shapes. Proper technique and color combinations are crucial because poorly made camouflage nets perform the opposite function – revealing the location of soldiers to the enemy, potentially serving as a death sentence. The finished camouflage nets are delivered directly to Ukrainian defenders with the help of Tavi Draugi volunteers and partners. Attendees of the “Angāra saulrieti” concert will have the opportunity to participate in a camouflage net weaving workshop led by Tavi Draugi volunteers.
For the youngest attendees, there will be games and attractions together with the “Smaidu darbnīca” and Getparty.lv, and during the concert, a cafe, a charity book sales point, and a Tavi Draugi design line store will be open, where Latvian and Ukrainian themed souvenirs can be purchased for donations.
The next “Angāra saulrieti” concert will take place on August 28, and the artists will be announced in August.
The charity organization Tavi Draugi started the “Angāra saulrieti” series of charity concerts in the summer of 2023 with the goal of raising funds to support Ukraine. At the three charity concerts held last year, nearly 29,000 euros were raised, along with donations of hundreds of very useful items and products for Ukrainian soldiers, civilians, and their four-legged friends. As part of the concert series, performances were dedicated to Ukraine by “Laika upe,” “Singapūras satīns,” Intars Busulis and “Abonementa orķestris,” “Very Cool People,” Elza Rozentāle, “Queentesence” and Rihards Saule, “Mazais Princis,” and DAGAMBA.
