Knitted items that also warm hearts: Your Friends and Latvijas Pasts invite you to donate for the support of Ukrainian soldiers

From November 5th to February 1st next year, the association Tavi draugi and Latvijas Pasts are organizing the fifth charity campaign to support the people of Ukraine. Once again, we invite you to donate knitted items, so that with these, and the warmth and care put into them, we can warm the hearts of those who fight every day for Ukraine’s freedom: because warmth is life.

As the winter cold approaches, it becomes increasingly important for those serving in the Ukrainian army to not only care for others but also for their own safety. Knitted socks, hats, scarves, and gloves are especially useful, reminding not only of the knitter’s care but also providing warmth in the cold and damp.

The association Tavi draugi and Latvijas Pasts invite anyone who enjoys handicrafts, has the necessary materials, and the skills, to create various knitted items, which will then be delivered to Ukrainian soldiers and medical personnel. The recommended size for socks is from 37 to 45, and it is better to choose unobtrusive color tones for the knitting.

In order to gather as many knitted items for Ukraine as possible and to make it easier for the public to donate, Latvijas Pasts, using its postal office and extensive parcel locker network, will deliver them free of charge to the Tavi draugi association.

Knitted items can be donated via the company’s blue parcel lockers, choosing the nearest and most convenient locker, accessible at any time of day or night. To ensure the package reaches its destination, follow these steps on the locker’s screen: Select SendPaid via web – Enter the number – enter the code TAVIDRAUGI – follow the on-screen instructions.
Parcels sent via locker can be up to 39 x 38 x 58 cm in size and weigh up to 31.5 kg.

Additionally, knitted items can be brought to the nearest postal office during its working hours. They can also be handed to the postman if the customer receives other postal and payment services at their residence, but it is not possible to use the Postman at Home service for donation drop-off.

Whether dropping the donation in a parcel locker or bringing it to the post office, please address the package to: Tavi draugi campaign, Ziemeļu iela 10, Mārupes novads.

Latvijas Pasts will deliver the donated items to Tavi draugi at Ventspils iela 50, k-3, Riga, for further transportation to Ukraine.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there have already been four knitting campaigns to support Ukraine. The most recent one, in cooperation with Latvijas Pasts, took place from November 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024. During the campaign, Latvian residents donated and handed over more than 10,000 kilograms of knitted items at postal offices, which Tavi draugi sorted and delivered to Ukraine.
